Hoosier Valley Railcar Storage

Railcar Storage

The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum offers railcar storage in North Judson, Indiana, for other railroads and private car owners. Railcar owners, shippers, and railroads need a good place to store their cars. The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is well-positioned to offer several storage options. Plus we're located close to the Chicago area. Our facilities are only 50 miles from major yard and connections in the Chicagoland area. Through our shortline partner, inbound and outbound storage cars can be interchanged with Norfolk Southern and CSX.

Types of Railcar Storage

We can handle boxcars, open top hoppers, covered hoppers, flatcars, gondolas, tank cars, passenger cars, locomotives, and more. We are capable of storing unit trains of hoppers and tank cars.

We offer three storage options for railcar owners: long-term, intermediate, and short-term storage:

Long-Term Storage

The museum has 6,000 feet of track available for long-term storage of empty railcars. That’s enough room for 100 60-foot freight cars. Our dedicated long-term storage tracks are intended for storage needs of 6 months or more.

Intermediate Storage

The museum has and additional 6,000 feet of track available for intermediate storage and possibly long-term storage. That’s enough room for 100 60-foot freight cars. This space is intended for storage needs of 3 to 6 months during off-season months (November through April).

Short-Term Storage

The museum has 18,000+ feet of track available for short-term storage of empty railcars. That’s enough room for more than 300 60-foot freight cars. Our short-term storage tracks are intended for storage needs of less than 3 months during off-season months (January through March).
